Joomlicious

    Hi.

    What is this site all about? you may ask, and I would answer, well, this is the home of both free and commercially available extensions for the Joomla! CMS. If you don't know what that is, then you should probably find out before going any further.

     Why do you bother writing this stuff? you implore, and I reply, hmm... let me think. Thats a good question. I guess there are a few reasons that compound upon each other to form a complete answer to that question...

   (you don't have to read the stuff in the box if you don't want, I just feel like blathering on for a bit)

    You see, years ago,  our company "Owl Watch " struggled to find a solution that would solve most of our web design and development needs.  Basic web sites were just that, basic html, css and a smidgen of javascript, and updating them basically required the original author to go back to the source, as he alone possessed the the wherewithal to dive through his hand written code and make the silly little change.

    Web development posed the same problem. It seemed that each client's application was its own beast.  While some code could be reused from project to project, we basically had to start each project from scratch.  Having just recently graduated college, I (the lead developer) was certain that Java was the language of choice and anything less would be utterly foolish.  I found Struts and Hibernate and a million other tools that seemed be "the answer" to our development woes. Alas, the advantages of each tool came at the high price of a steep learning curve that was just not fiscally viable.

    So, we realized something must be done to sustain our lives as web designers / developers. I (the lead developer) reluctantly let my scholastic guard down and researched other avenues and...

    Okay, okay, we get it. Get to the point buddy, you exclaim apathetically.

    Sorry - I blathered a bit to long. Anywho, we found Joomla! and realized that it was the response to our blues laden call.  We could manage simple websites and larger applications with the same application! Praise <insert your god here>.

    So, basically, now we write plugins / extensions, whatever you want to call them, for Joomla! as we find neccesary, or at our clients request. If it takes a long time, we will release it for a small fee to save our client the hefty bill and recoup our development time.  If its something we consider fundamental to the Joomla! architecture, or if its fairly simple, we release it for free.

    This endeavor required Owl Watch to create a new release vehicle Joomlicious to reach a different audience than our traditional Owl Watch business.  By the way - If you need hosting, please do contact us !
