Replace Contact Component Image with Google Map Print E-mail
Tuesday, 06 June 2006

googlemaphackThis hack replaces the standard contact image with an interactive Google map.

Before we start, lets have a quick overview of what we'll be doing. We are going to add some parameters to the Contact Details of the standard contact component. These parameters will be Enabled, Key, Width, Height, Longitude, and Latitude. If you enable the map, it will overwrite any image that has been selected for the contact item.

First, Download the Archive. Unzip at Joomla installation root.

The following directions explain how to get a google api key for your site and other nitty gritty to get this thing running correctly.

Now, get yourself a google maps api key

Next, go to the administration area of your site and go to "Components > Contacts" and choose the contact you would like to display with a map. Enter your api key in the box there.

Make sure you put in the Key and Latitude and Longitude of your contact, otherwise it won't work! You can get the Lat/Lon of your contact here http://www.mapbuilder.net/.

If you found this article helpful, please consider making a donation (the little white donation button in the column to the left). Thanks!
